This is a true story. It was told to me by my business partner, and it concerns members of his own (extended) family.
Sebastian*, a young child of approximately only 3 or 4 years old at the time, had suddenly become interested in playing his parents piano. His parents were pleased when they saw their young child take an interest in music, as they both come from musical families. Sebastian also told his parents that he liked playing the piano with his new friend, who Sebastian called “the laughing man”, and claimed that he flew in through the window and played on the piano with him. Sebastian’s parents assumed that their young child’s new friend was just an imaginary friend, as sometimes happens with young children, and so they dismissed it as mere childish fantasy and thought no more about it.
Months later, whilst the family were visiting Sebastian’s great grand-mothers’ house, Sebastian wandered off into one of the bedrooms, and upon seeing an old photograph on the wall, Sebastian excitedly pointed at an old man in the photograph and told his parents that the man was “the laughing man” who flew in to his room and played on the piano with him. His parents were shocked to hear what Sebastian told them – because the old man in the photograph was Sebastian’s great grand-father…… who had passed away many years before Sebastian had even been born..
