A crop circle is the name given to a pattern created by the flattening of a crop such as wheat, barley, rye, maize, or rapeseed. Crop circles are also referred to as crop formations, because they are not always circular in shape.
The exact date that crop circles began appearing is unknown, but it is generally accepted that they began appearing in England in the 1970’s and have increased in frequency substantially since, and in recent years they have since spread to many other countries, too. Towards the end of the 21st century, some twenty-six countries had reported approximately ten-thousand crop circles in total, (90% of those were located in southern England).
Many of the formations appearing in England are positioned near ancient monuments, such as Stonehenge. Crop formations usually are made overnight, but have also been made during the day.
Researchers have claimed that their tests show there are higher electromagnetic energy and / or radiation readings found inside (Genuine) Crop Circles than within their surrounding areas, that is to say outside of the circles. Also claimed is that the stalks of the crops are different than if they had been bent or squashed by human intervention.
Skeptics believe Crop Circles are just a man-made hoax, and some Crop Circles certainly are – The most widely known method of constructing a crop formation is to tie one end of a rope to an anchor point, and the other end to a board which is used to crush the plants. More recent methods include the use of a lawn roller. Another theory is that they are caused by meteorological phenomena (weather).
Some crop formations though, are not so easy to dismiss, and are impressive by both their intricate designs and enormous size. Also of interest is the claim of mysterious ancient discs made of precious metals (Gold, Silver & Bronze) being found buried underneath a crop-formation in Germany, in 2001…….
